I ordered this book because I had taken in an adult, female foster dog who had come from a puppy mill. Although I have adopted many dogs from rescue groups and trained them, I was not experienced with any dog from a puppy mill situation. She was timid, shy, unsocialized, not accustomed to living in a home, etc., but very sweet. So I was seeking detailed information on how to deal with the myriad of issues that I observed in our foster dog. I did not find that in this book. There was much too much coverage on standard training matters that one could find in any number of good dog training books and not nearly enough on the more complex issues that are found in dogs coming from rescue situations prompted by abandonment, abuse, mistreatment, etc. That is not what I expected from the book's title. I would not recommend this choice if that's what you're looking for.Product details

This book is awesome for anyone who does rescue, fosters or owns a dog. Very easy to follow and useful information on to train a dog who has been through a lot! Problem solving, what to do the right way and more!! Excellent!!
If you have dogs or interact with them, you owe it to them and yourself to read this book. Learn to speak your dog's language and it will change both of your lives. Please don't pass up this opportunity, read the book.
Love this book. I have purchased several to send with my foster dogs once they are adopted.
The content was great, but I had a hard time navigating the typos on the edition. It seems like more and more kindle books (and print) are not properly edited.
Great book! Nikky really knows how to reward dogs...and explains why negative re-enforcement isn't the right choice! I would recommend this book to ANY dog owner!
If you can catch one of her workshops, too, they are great! A DVD is yet to come to accompany the book. Check out DOGSPEAK on YouTube also.
Everyone who works for or volunteers with a dog rescue group should read this. Just getting dogs out of shelters is NOT enough.
